The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 405 was chartered in 1911 to help electrical workers in eastern Iowa bargain for safer working conditions and a better quality of life. Local 405 represents over 700 electricians living and working in our jurisdiction. We serve the counties of Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Poweshiek in the state of Iowa.

If you're an experienced electrician who wants a better quality of life, or an aspiring electrician who is looking for an apprenticeship, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 405 is here to support you. We've been representing electricians in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and the surrounding areas since 1911. Employer paid health insurance: Our members are eligible for health, vision, dental, disability, and life insurance.

Employer provided pension plans: Start saving for your retirement with our employer funded pension plan. You can add additional money with an optional 401k to accelerate your savings.
Services
Re-sign is open on the first day of the month and remains open all month for the next month.
You must re-sign to remain on book.
You can re-sign by mail, email, fax, or by use of the resign form provided here.
Emails re-signs will be responded to by the local 405 referral agent.
The re-sign form will generate an automatic response.
If you do not receive a response, or if you have any questions about your re-sign call us.

It takes 304 reported hours to become eligible for coverage on our Health & Welfare plan.
Local 405 Health & Welfare contributions are paid by your employer monthly, and are put in a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for you.
From the HRA you can pay your monthly premium and/or reimburse yourself for qualified out of pocket expenses.

In 2013 Local 405 built a 10KW solar array.
We have been generating about 20 percent of the power we use.
